Getting your brows done is one thing, and it can’t be overlooked that if it’s your first time, as we all know it can be scary! But once you’ve gone past that, got your dream brows and are currently living on cloud nine, it’s time to consider the maintenance!
This is usually a topic we deep dive into during your 8 week-top up. This is your second session which you attend to complete the brows. We talk about what to expect, how to look after your brows, what to avoid for best possible results and what to expect depending on your skin type and lifestyle.
Skin type is one of the most influential and important factors on what your brows will look like 6 months- 12 months from completion. It is the single most important factor (along with plenty more) that will help distinguish when to expect to come in for an annual boost. However, where it gets complicated is when other factors come into play. These can vary from how much sun exposure you have during the year, whether you’re a gym girlie, the course(s) of antibiotics you take and many more.
To sum it up in a nutshell, oily skin does not retain pigment as well as dry skin. So my oily skin girlies should expect to come back for annual boosts sooner than their friend who has dry skin. So please don’t compare the lifespan of your brows to a dry skinned mate!
However, even though clients with dry skin hold pigment a little longer than those with oily skin, you then risk turning grey and/or ashier. So that raises the question of which is better?
There is no straightforward answer to this. Everyone’s skin is different. And their expectations should be altered depending on their skin type and lifestyle. There are times where I’m confident a client’s skin is so oily, they’ll be back for a top up in 8-10 months. But then something unexpected happens and they retain the pigment so well, with minimal discolouring and its all-happy days for us all!
My go to end of top up recommendations are as follows.
‘’Please expect to come back for an annual boost every 12-18 months. For those who have oily skin, it would be closer to the 12-month mark. This can vary a few weeks/ months depending on the individual’s lifestyle. However, don’t mark my word as gospel as I have had clients with oily skin and have not needed a top up for over 12 months and they are good to go! Its not necessarily healthy to deposit pigment into skin that does not need it. Therefore, these timescales are not set in stone, and can be altered depending on your brows specifically.’’
I hope this puts some questions in your minds at ease, as its not a straightforward topic where equations and calculations come into place. Results alter depending on each client and every single client is different.
Lots of love,
Handan x
